Alan Gruber is an associate of SORINROYERCOOPER.  He has substantial litigation experience developed at both Shearman & Sterling LLP and Dreier LLP.  Alan began his career at Shearman & Sterling in 2003 where his experience included all aspects of motion practice, discovery, and trial.  He drafted and argued motions at the trial and appellate level, managed document collections and productions, prepared witnesses for depositions and trial testimony, and deposed witnesses. While at Shearman & Sterling, Alan’s work encompassed general commercial litigation, antitrust, securities, and ERISA litigation.  He subsequently joined Dreier LLP in 2007 where his experience included all of the foregoing, as well as drafting pleadings, client counseling, negotiating and drafting of settlement agreements, and managing all aspects of discovery, including depositions and the supervision of junior attorneys.  His practice expanded to include a broad range of complex litigation in federal and state courts, arbitrations and mediations, including the representation of, among others:

  • A media conglomerate in litigation relating to one of the largest leverage buyouts in US history;
  • An advertising/marketing services conglomerate in a trademark infringement action;
  • A hedge fund in multiple actions seeking to enjoin FINRA arbitrations;
  • A European-based law firm in litigation relating to the raid of its partnership by a US-based law firm;  and
  • A national executive search firm in a legal malpractice action.

Alan attended The George Washington University, receiving a B.A., cum laude, in International Affairs, in May 2000, earning a double concentration in International Economics and International Politics.  Following college, he attended the Tulane University School of Law.  After his first year of law school, Alan interned for the US Securities and Exchange Commission, where he assisted enforcement staff attorneys in cases relating to financial fraud by reporting companies, fraud in securities offerings, fraud over the internet, and illegal securities sales practices.  He served as the Senior Notes and Comments Editor of the Tulane Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property and authored “Interpretation of ‘Revision’ Under the Copyright Act Spells Trouble for Publishers:  Greenberg v. National Geographic Society,” 4 Tul. J. Tech. & Intell. Prop. 223 (2002), for which he was honored with the 2001-2002 Best Case Note Award.

Alan is a member of the Bars of the States of New York and New Jersey and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey.  He also is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
